Classification of Network.

Explain network types based on geographical network.

Explain MAN.

=> stands for Metropolitan Area Network.

=> It is a large computer network that spans a metropolitan area or campus.

=> It is geographical scope falls between WAN and LAN.

=> MANs provide internet connectivity for LANs in metropolitan region and connect them to wider area networks like internet.

=> MAN is similar to local area network but spans an entire city or campus.

=> MANs are formed by connecting multiple LANs.

=> Thus MANs are larger than LANs but smaller than WANs.

=> MANs are extremely efficient and provide fast communication via high speed carriers.

=> MAN is idle for many kinds of network users because it is medium size network.

=> MANs are used to build networks with high data connection speeds for cities and towns.

=> The working mechanism of a MAN is similar to an internet service provider(ISP) but MAN is owned by single organization.

=> Like a WAN,a MAN provides shared network connection to its users.

=> A MANs mostly works on he data link layer of OSI model.

=> The biggest advantage of MANs is the band width of the connecting links.

=> This means that resources shared on the network can be accessed extremely quickly.

=> MANs allow multiple users to share same high speed internet connection.

=> Peripherals such as printers can be shared amongst many different users.

=> Terminals are cheaper than standalone PCs.

=> Software can be shared amongst different users.

=> Communication across the network is cheap and fast.

=> Cabling can be expensive to install and replace.

=> A fault with the server will prevent the whole network from working.

=> Security measures are needed to restrict access to the network.
